Is your local Sam's out if Jasmine rice?

Mine is clean out. I think I read other countries are going to cut rice exports due to shortages, I hope this wont effect Sams Jasmine rice since thats the only rice I really like. Is your Sam's out of stock too?

Mini-survey: Does your local Sam's or Costco sell brown rice? If so, how much?

I noticed last week when I was there that they didn't have any more of it. I meant to make a thread similar to this but I just assumed it was part of the rice shortages.

The lady from sams told me they have more on order but that they have no expected ship date so she couldn't tell me when it would be in stock again. Hopefully soon.

Re: Is your local Sam's out if Jasmine rice?

If this is a "polished" white rice; not to worry: Just buy some corn starch or bleached flour instead. They have the same nutritional value as the white rice, which is to say NONE!

If you want to store some nutritious and high quality food, try the bulk organics at your local healthfood store. Short grain brown rice is about the most nutritious food you can buy or store. If you want bread that feeds your body, not just fills you up, buy some organic flour milled from hard red winter wheat; or buy a grain mill and a few hundred lbs of hrww in wheatberry form.

India is going to continue exports of its costly arromatic basmati rices. They are not exporting the basic product at commodity prices any longer. If the world wants basmati, it will just have to compete for it.

Heard rice was limit up on Monday...
The UN says food riots likely to spread....

Food that fills you up, but does nothing for your blood will just weaken your system.

The macrobiotic diet is very well docummented to be about the finest regimen for building up your blood and immune system. Basic organic whole grains are the core of this diet. Try your library for a cookbook. You can really do a lot for your health by eating right, eating reduced portions of red meat, and getting all the vitamins you can from fresh foods.

ino.com has the rice and wheat contract prices, maybe we can get them put up in the upper-right hand corner to. Gold and Silver is important, but you can't eat it.

My Sam's had a huge pile of the stuff from India. Where I live, I don't think anyone really eats rice, except me.

I have bought some parboiled enriched rice recently (200lbs) and have vacuum sealed it in conveinent size containers (Ball, wide-mouth mason jars).

I looked last week when I was in Sam's for coffee but didn't see any, just the regular rice. We don't use a lot of rice even though I like it. I like pasta better and to tell the truth, my wife never learned to fix rice like I like it. My Daughter-in-law is Thai and she cooks rice all the time for our son. Once in a while she brings some food over for us. She sure knows how to fix rice right. I don't think she she buys rice at Sam's, but I'm not sure where she gets it.

I learned never to ask my wife to buy rice, she never will let me live down my Y2K hoard.:D

Sam's club is vile.

I've never eaten Jasmine rice in my life.
Buy normal rice.

If i'm going to eat a couple hundred pounds of something I don't mind spending a few extra dollars for it to taste good.

Hard to put into words, but its more "aromatic" where as regular rice is more bland. You can smell and taste a difference but its hard to explain. Its just better. The texture is more smooth and silky and the aroma is slightly "sweet". Compliments very nicley in Thai dishes with Coconut Milk. Also makes a good rice pudding. Unlike regular rice, it tastes pretty good all by its self.

As the rice is cooking, mix in some canned sardines, some greens from your garden, some curry powder and fresh garlic.

Then add a touch of cocoa powder and cinnamon.

Add tomato sauce if you're up to it.

This is real health food.

Technically, you're right, but rice is very filling, and mixed with other ingredients will make a meal go farther. White rice is good for long-term storage, but even brown rices, stored right, will last a long time. One of the biggest advantages to rice is it has very low potential for food allergies.

I'll have to head back to WinCo, to see if they have more brown jasmine rice. Tasty!

COSTCO last week still has my favorite Calrose Sun West 50 pounds bag of rice. Yesterday, no more. There is only the new Blue Ribbon ones, which I do not like. And then there is this Indian rice that smells. I checked the other COSTCO, same thing. I am glad I bought a few bags before it was all gone.

Looks like I can still mail order on the web, but the price is higher now.

Cosco is all out of "Super Lucky Elephant" jasmine. Last week they had 3 pallets. Last night, I bought the last bag in the store. They also had just posted a sign saying they were limiting purchases (that was new).

Wow. My local Sams has more Jasmine Rice (Super Lucky Elephant brand) than it did a week or so ago (whenever the price spike was announced on this board (Thanks to whoever alerted us to the shortage/spike)).

Basmati was down to a few bags (dunno if they had more). Plenty of Riceland Brand (Made in US).

Prices were up 15 to 20% since my last visit (7 to 10 days ago).

Course, I'm in Eastern Kentucky. And rice just don't go well with opossum.

Hey all, if there's a "Chinatown" in the big city near you, pay them a visit.

Denver's close to me and if you know the Federal/Alameda area, there are at least 5 of these jumbo Asian markets, They sell mostly wholesale to Asian restaurants. They are similar to a mini Sam's, they stock evey kind of Asian food you can imagine (some you don't want to imagine, too. I nearly gagged while going by the fresh fish department. :no_ma:). On my last visit (allbeit 3 months ago), they had pallets full of 50 lb bags of about 10 different kinds of rice.
